Webinar Overview:

The healthcare industry is the nation's second largest private employer. The demand for healthcare continues to increase. Moreover, most jobs in the industry cannot be automated or shipped overseas. It's no wonder then that unions are anxious to organizing more workers in hospital and other healthcare organizations. Despite recent infighting among some healthcare unions, organizers are employing increasing sophisticated and effective techniques. To make matters even more serious for hospitals, the so-called "Employee Free Choice Act" (EFCA) is likely to become law during the coming year. EFCA will make union organizing easier and may fundamentally change what hospitals must do to remain union free. The Act is also likely to increase costs and threats that employers face in maintaining a union-free environment. In this Webinar, we will review employees' basic rights under current law, examine why and how healthcare employers join unions, the tactics that organizers use, what the unions have been up to lately, how EFCA is likely to change the landscape of union organizing, and what you can do to safeguard your hospital's union free status.
